Internment Arrives in Dis-United Kingdom

Wednesday, 11th June 2008: a sad day for all those who believe in liberal democracy in the Dis-United Kingdom.
For this was the day our supine trough-swilling elected representatives called 'Members of Parliament' voted in Gordon the Moron's Bill to make it legal for citizens to be locked up for six weeks without charge, or even being informed of the evidence against them.
All this has been done, supposedly, to protect us against terrorism, yet the risk of being killed or injured in a terrorist attack in the UK is less than that of being knocked down by a car on our roads.
Nosher and I were relaxing on our deckchairs after a day's work down on our little allotment when the depressing news came through on Nosher's trannie shortly before 6 o'clock. Nosher sighed.
'Well, I think that's probably the last building-block in place in preparation for a fully-fledged police state' he murmured.
'What annoys me' I said 'is that this nonsense arises because in this country a suspect cannot continue to be questioned after charges have been laid, unlike every other country in the western world. All Gordon the Moron had to do was to change that restriction, and then this 42 day nonsense is unnecessary, because new charges can be substituted at a later date if necessary.'
Nosher nodded in agreement.
'Detention without evidence or charge is internment, plain and simple' Nosher replied 'and it will not protect us from terrorists, because it amounts to arbitrary arrest and imprisonment. It's far more likely to stimulate further recruits to the terrorists' cause, just as internment did in Northern Ireland. Goes to show what a lot of incompetent idiots rule over us.'
'I suppose we'll have to wait on the House of Lords to use their greater wisdom to throw this Bill out, just as they did with the Racial and Religious Hatred Bill a few years ago, another piece of repressive nonsense dreamt up this oppressive Government.'
Nosher nodded, and with an air of dejection we packed our things into our little sheds and wandered home.
Later, on the 10 o'clock BBC Radio 4 news, the announcer claimed the Bill had got through 'by the narrowest of margins', only nine votes. The BBC is part of the problem of the cultural decline of this country - the 'narrowest of margins' in a democratic vote is surely 1 vote?
With nonsense like this coming from the BBC these days it is no wonder our land is going to the dogs.

Whatever you do, don't mention 'terrorism' in public - you may be locked up without charge for six weeks at the whim of an incompetent security official (possible the same one who left Top Secret documents about terrorism on a train recently). These are worrying times - for we are more at risk of oppression from our own government than from terrorists.
Best wishes and take care.
